Lakeway, Texas is located in the Western corner of Travis County and is a wonderful place to live.
Lakeway is located around 25 miles West of Downtown Austin. The community includes many golf courses, tennis courts, marinas, a private airport, a 65-mile long lake, 100 acres of parks and trails, and almost 500 acres of greenbelt. Lakeway is situated in the middle of gorgeous Texas Hill Country views.
The Lakeway City offers police protection, courts, building and development, parks and activities, streets and drainage, and waste management services. The Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Travis Co. ESD #6, is the fire response team, municipal utility districts provide water and wastewater service. The Council-Manager local government is managed by the Lakeway City Charter that includes a Mayor and six Council-members.
The city gets its main revenue from property tax, sales tax, and franchise fees.
Lakeway started as a place for retirees and those who wanted second-homes, however it has grown to include all types of people and families who enjoy the beautiful views and lake lifestyle of the area.
There are many activities in the area including golf, tennis, hiking, biking, picnic areas, camping areas, fishing, boating, swimming, and more.
Golf aficionados will be aware of the exclusive Austin Golf Club in the Lakeway area. The Hills at Lakeway is also a great golf course in the area. It’s easy to visit the popular Lake Travis to boat, fish or swim, within the Lakeway community as well.
The 2010 U.S. Census population showed 11,391 Lakeway residents, which was an increase from 8,002 in 2000.
All homeowners need to check if they are in a specific school district’s boundaries, as these fluctuate and are not guaranteed.
Many homes in the Lakeway area are part of the Lake Travis ISD’s renowned school district.
Over 78% of the Lake Travis ISD district’s graduating students go to college post high school. Lake Travis ISD has one high school, two middle schools, and six elementary schools, as well as a third middle school scheduled to open fall of 2019.
Colleges within 20 miles of Lakeway include the University of Texas at Austin, Saint Edward’s University, Austin Community College, and Concordia University.
